Air Line Pilots Association (ALPA) White Paper UAS
During the past 100+ years of aviation history, several innovations have greatly advanced the progress of aviation. These innovations include radar, the jet engine, and the Global Positioning System (GPS). All have served as the catalyst for major expansion for the aviation community. Another technological development may enter commercial aviation from the Department of Defense (DoD), the Unmanned Aircraft System (UAS), which raises yet-unanswered questions about its ability to safely operate with other aircraft in the National Airspace System.

FAA Proposed Rules for Unmanned Aircraft System Test Sites
The FAA intends to identify six test ranges/sites to integrate unmanned aircraft systems (UAS) into the National Airspace System (NAS). This pilot project is in direct response to a Congressional mandate. The FAA believes that designation of such UAS test sites will assist in the effort to safely and efficiently integrate UAS into the NAS and solicits feedback on this issue.

National Unmanned Aircraft Systems (UAS) Project Office
The goal of the U.S. Geological Survey’s (USGS) National Unmanned Aircraft Systems (UAS) Project Office is to support the integration of UAS technology into the process employed by USGS scientists to support informed decision making across the Department of the Interior. This integration will directly benefit the nation by creating the opportunity for USGS and our partners to gain access to an increased level of persistent monitoring of earth surface processes (forest health conditions, monitoring wildfires, earthquake zones, invasive species, etc.) in areas that have been difficult or nearly impossible to obtain information before.

University of Colorado, Boulder
